Umberto

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 3 months

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Umberto has found a home! His story: The little heartbreaker Umberto is only three months old, but his life hung by a thread more than once. The unbelievably irresponsible owner of Umberto's mother left him and his siblings to fend for themselves on the streets. Not all puppies could resist the dangers of speeding cars, but Umberto made it and is now in safety – a kind-hearted older lady who desperately tried to keep all the doggy children alive with food rations granted him shelter and, most importantly, a safe place to stay until the dream of a forever home for him came true. Umberto shows himself to be an open and friendly little creature that longs for love and security. At first, a certain shyness may appear, but who can blame him – after his tough start in life? For now, fellow animals, Samtpfoten (velvet paws), and also children are his friends. In short: Umberto is playful, cuddly, and uncomplicated. Given his young age, the little fellow still has much to learn – the lessons of the Puppy ABC are now a big challenge for him, which is completely normal. Additionally, the phase of puberty will soon begin – a time when the hormone balance of the little guy will change. Defiance, forgetfulness, and a jumble in his little head will then determine his everyday life. Although this phase can be somewhat nerve-wracking at times, it is very important for Umberto's proper development. Once it is over, a sigh of relief can be taken – Umberto will then be an adult and, with great probability, a great, well-established character. As Umberto is likely to remain small, he can be happy in both rural and urban areas. However, sufficient running space and mental stimulation should be a given. Does your heart melt at the sight of Umberto? His luggage is already packed. Of course, he also brings his EU pet passport. The heartbreaker would naturally also be happy with a foster home. A big thank you goes to Petra. You gave Umberto his beautiful name! As of: 01.11. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 01.11.2025

About Umberto

What life with Umberto looks like

Umberto is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Umberto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Umberto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Umberto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Umberto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Umberto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Umberto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Umberto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
