Umka (Умка)

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 16 years

Our elderly Umka. She is about 15 years old. She is deaf, elderly, and her fate was very difficult. Her owner died, and the sister-owner, when she came, took Umka and threw her into the yard of a private sector - a blind, old, sick dog. Fortunately, people called me, and I was able to find her. I took her for treatment. Umka has problems with the thyroid gland and hormones. She periodically takes the drug Viteril, but for several months we have been gradually reducing the dose and hope that in time she will no longer need it. She was not spayed due to her age - the doctor prohibited this. The girl causes no problems at all. She sleeps almost the whole day, waking up only to eat, go to the toilet, and take a little walk. Umka loves fresh air, she needs to be dressed because she is half-haired due to long-term hormonal problems. Now her fur is not falling out, she is healthy and feels good. Umka requires quiet care in a family, in warmth and love, not in an animal shelter. She deserves a calm, happy life where she will be protected and valued.

About Umka (Умка)

What life with Umka (Умка) looks like

Umka (Умка) is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Umka (Умка), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Umka (Умка)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Umka (Умка) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Umka (Умка) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Umka (Умка) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Umka (Умка) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Umka (Умка) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
