adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Urmel has found her home! Her story: Urmel came from a small village near Zalau. There, she lived with an older couple who had taken in more and more animals over the years. When the woman fell seriously ill and into a coma, the man was suddenly left alone with the care of numerous dogs and cats, which overwhelmed him completely. Step by step, it was decided to help, and Urmel was one of the first to be taken into our care. Urmel shows herself as a typical senior: she loves the proximity to people, wants to be there, stroked, and enjoy attention. She no longer has much energy for great activities, she is rather laid-back on the go and greets everyone friendly. She gets used to harness and leash well, but needs some practice and security in new situations. With other dogs, Urmel is friendly and uncomplicated. As for cats, she has no previous experiences. Overall, she appears to be a rather simple companion who mainly seeks: peace, affection, and a fixed place at the side of her people. Urmel is currently a bit overweight and should slowly and gently lose weight in her new home with adapted feeding and small, regular walks. Age-wise, she is missing some teeth, which do not particularly restrict her in everyday life. Urmel is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She has an EU pet passport and will be released after a positive result. Do you want to give Urmel a quiet, loving home where she can arrive and simply be a dog? Then contact us gladly. A big thank you to Christine Sch.! You not only gave Urmel a name but also the chance at a new life. Status: 27.01. Some symptoms here are age-related.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 27.01.2026

About Urmel

What life with Urmel looks like

Urmel is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Urmel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Urmel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Urmel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Urmel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Urmel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Urmel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Urmel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
