Valerie

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Valerie, a female dog, has been at the shelter since August 2026. She is estimated to be born in March 2023 and stands about 30-39 cm tall, weighing around 10-15 kg. Learn more about Valerie in the video and other pictures! Male/Female, estimated age: born in Month/Year, estimated height: xx-xx cm, estimated weight: xx-xx kg. Special feature: Gnadenplatz/Handicap (if not, delete). Learn more about HUNDENAME in a video! Valerie, the mother dog, was rescued from the streets of Romania with her puppies and taken to the shelter. A concerned man took them in and contacted us. You can find more information about how the dogs come to the shelter and general questions in our animal welfare FAQ. Valerie has shown herself to be very people-oriented at the shelter. She is very happy about visits and actively seeks out petting. Life at the shelter still seems to be unsettling for Valerie. She reacts very stressed to loud noises and new stimuli at the moment. This dog is still new at the shelter. Our caregivers take the time to get to know and assess each dog. When we know more about the character of this dog, we will update this profile. You can still fill out a self-disclosure for this dog. We are looking for people who are aware that animal shelter dogs have a certain history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter. That's why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our placement team.

About Valerie

What life with Valerie looks like

Valerie is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Valerie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Valerie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Valerie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Valerie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Valerie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Valerie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Valerie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
