Van Gogh

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Adult · 4 years

Van Gogh is a white, neutered, 4 year old male cat that came in to Bristol ARC as a stray. He had been wandering around the area for a few years and had sustained some cuts and injuries to his face and ears. He is a large boy with a personality to match. Van Gogh is an incredibly vocal food motivated cat. He has a particular fondness for treats and will immediately come out of his shell for one even if he gets a little pushy for it. He adores a head rub and will often roll onto his back and purr away while you do it. He loves attention and strokes. Despite adoring human company he is very much your typical cat who does enjoy some independence, he will often just walk away or lay on the other side of the room when he is done with having affection. He is not one to play with toys particularly frequently but he does enjoy pouncing on a string every now and then. About Van Gogh

What life with Van Gogh looks like

Van Gogh is a large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Bristol Animal Rescue Centre in Bristol.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Van Gogh, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Van Gogh?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bristol Animal Rescue Centre handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Van Gogh on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Van Gogh if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bristol Animal Rescue Centre will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Van Gogh already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Van Gogh isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bristol Animal Rescue Centre early rather than rehoming privately; they know Van Gogh and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
