Adopt Vándor

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Fresh: Vándor looks like a Labrador, and we are trying to uncover the characteristics typical of a Labrador from his behavior. Initially, he was distant and shy and did not really communicate with people, and it even seemed that there might be a problem with his hearing. But it has since turned out that he is probably just used to not having anyone wanting to establish contact with him. We have been working separately with him for a few months, and during this time he has changed a lot. He pays attention to people, makes eye contact, likes to be near us, jumps excitedly, follows the thrown treat. He loves it, and sometimes he even rubs against you to demand petting. For now, he is on good terms with the collar and leash, so the next step is to make him like them. Vándor has been wandering the streets of Szeged for months, but because of his shyness, no one had managed to catch him until now. However, thanks to a kind lady, her fire dog and one of our volunteers' teamwork, it was finally possible to catch him.

Imádja, sőt olykor dörgölőzéssel kiköveteli a simogatást. A nyakörvezéssel és pórázon vezetéssel egyelőre hadi lábon áll, úgyhogy a következő lépés, hogy ezeket megszerettessük vele. Vándor hónapok óta járta Szeged utcáit, félénksége miatt azonban ezidáig senkinek nem sikerült megfognia. Most azonban egy állatbarát hölgy, tüzelő kutyája ill. egyik önkéntesünk csapatmunkájának köszönhetően sikerült megfogni.

About Vándor

What life with Vándor looks like

Vándor is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vándor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vándor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vándor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vándor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vándor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vándor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vándor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
