Vayu

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 4 years

I am Vayu, a dear little heart cat, who likes to be very close to my people. That’s me: I was found, and I am a very clingy and mature tomcat. I like to sleep in the same bed or on the sofa with my people – as long as I’m not alone. Sometimes I retreat to my transport box when I need some peace. Playing isn’t really my thing, but I find small balls quite exciting. I’m also quite clever – opening doors is no problem for me. So you’ll have to be a little more careful. Small children are too sleepy for me; I prefer a quiet, relaxed environment. Unfortunately, I am very sick and hope that someone will still want to adopt me. I have what’s called a portosystemic shunt, which is a blood vessel defect. An operation is unfortunately not an option for me, and so I live best with special food, fixed feeding times, and medication. In the animal shelter practice, you will of course also be comprehensively advised before adoption. Unfortunately, I have been quite overstretched so far – I also want to play and run around. A free run would be my preference, but that’s not possible due to my illness. Therefore, the best would be a secure free run (a garden from which I cannot escape) or a spacious apartment with a balcony (secured). Fixed playtimes (especially in the evenings) and maybe also clicker training would be great for me. Because if I get too bored, I express my displeasure through very loud, constant meowing (oops). Whether a lot of mental stimulation, food, or cuddles: routines in everyday life give me security, which in turn lowers my stress level. I wish for a home that has a lot of time for me and is very engaged with me – and loves me affectionately despite my illness. A balcony (secured) would be important for me, and of course, a secured area outside of a home or a securely fenced garden would be even better. Well, one can dream, right? ☺️ Small children are too sleepy for me, and I would prefer to be an only cat. Would you perhaps like to have a loving tomcat by your side?. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Vayu

What life with Vayu looks like

Vayu is a medium-sized adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Portosystemic shunt - vascular malformation requiring special diet, fixed feeding times, medications, and lifelong veterinary care. Surgery not an option. Needs secured outdoor access or spacious apartment with balcony.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vayu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vayu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vayu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vayu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vayu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vayu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vayu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
