Adopt VELAS

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

VELAS is a male dog of medium size, born in 2010. He lived on the street with his friends. There were four of them: Odi, VELAS, Bela and Vista! They fought daily to look for food in the bushes. They were really wild. They did not let anyone catch them or get close. It was an adventure to capture this group. When they arrived at the Shelter, they were very thin and scared. No one could even approach them; they tried to hide behind each other, it broke the heart of anyone who saw them. But a lot of time has passed and the volunteers have done everything to socialize these boys, and we consider them ready for adoption. They like to go for walks on a leash. They already like receiving cuddles and enjoy human company. They can be adopted by a patient and caring family. VELAS is vaccinated, dewormed and neutered.

O Velas e um cao macho de porte medio, nascido em 2010. Vivia na rua com os amiguinhos. Eram 4, o Odi, o Velas, a Bela e a Vista !

About VELAS

What life with VELAS looks like

VELAS is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Former feral dog requiring patient, experienced adopter for continued socialization

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting VELAS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about VELAS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw VELAS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt VELAS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is VELAS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if VELAS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know VELAS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
