Venus

Female · Young · 1 year

Venus is a sweet, lovable girl who adores the company of her handlers. It can take her a little while to warm up as she's an independent girl, but once she has created a bond with you, she has a cuddly side to her and loves to give kisses! When out and about, Venus is all business, using her nose to explore and learn about the world around her. Venus is a very smart girl who is eager to learn new things, so she would thrive in an active home that will help open up her world to new experiences. Meet adorable Venus, a 1-year-old German Shepherd X. She is looking for an active home with adopters who can take her on new adventures and explore the world! Venus would love patient and loving owners to continue her confidence-building in general and around other dogs. Her leaving hours must be built up gradually, and she may benefit from crate training to help her settle in her own space. Venus’s new home should be happy to continue her ongoing training to allow her to become the best version of herself. Venus has shown she can be worried by traffic, so she is on the search for a home in a quiet area away from any main/busy roads. She is also able to scale very high fences, so for her own safety, she must be kept on lead or a long line when outside of the home. Venus could live with another well-matched dog, pending meets at the centre and is suitable to live with older secondary children.

About Venus

What life with Venus looks like

Venus is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Venus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Venus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Venus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Venus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Venus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Venus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Venus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
