Vicky

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 11 months

Vicky - a small, beautiful female dog, estimated to be born in August 2025, with an approximate shoulder height of 40-59 cm. She has been at the shelter since May 2026 and is ready for adoption on June 13th. Learn more about Vicky by watching her video profile! Vicky's life began as a family dog, but she was left behind when her owners decided to leave the country. Fortunately, they reached out to us and did not want Vicky to end up on the streets due to her friendly and affectionate nature towards humans. Initially, Vicky was understandably confused and distant at our partner shelter, but by the next day, she had calmed down and approached our team for attention and even invited petting. For more information about how dogs come to the shelter and general questions, please visit our animal welfare FAQ. Now, Vicky can relax and find her forever family from here. As a recent arrival at the shelter, we do not yet have detailed information about her personality. We will update her profile with further impressions as soon as we get to know her better. We are looking for a loving home for Vicky that gives her the time she needs to build trust and provide the security all small dogs deserve. People who understand that shelter dogs bring a certain history with them. At the shelter, we can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we look for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: adopting instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs receive vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, flea treatment, and neutering before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than one year also undergo testing for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our placement team.

About Vicky

What life with Vicky looks like

Vicky is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vicky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vicky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vicky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vicky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vicky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vicky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vicky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
