VITO

Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Vito is 6 years old and came to us through an intervention. Our inspectors picked him up in serious condition. He had numerous wounds on his paws that had gone untreated for a long time. He’s a gorgeous German Shepherd. Vito has abundant energy, so he’d be best suited to a home where he can enjoy plenty of physical activity. He’s a dog who looks right at his human companion. When he spots people he knows behind the bars, he barks with joy at the sight of them. He’s an incredibly intelligent dog who learns quickly. He has a strong personality, so he needs an owner who is firm and consistent. With proper training, he’ll become a loyal and loving companion for many years to come. At first, he didn’t handle vet visits well due to the pain involved, but over time he learned to tolerate this somewhat unpleasant experience. He gets impatient easily, but this doesn’t cause major difficulties in handling him. He accepts a muzzle; currently, he pulls on the leash when he’s on a lead. We wouldn’t recommend a home with children, as Vito is a powerful dog who isn’t fully aware of his size and strength. Ideally, he’d be best suited to a home with a garden. He generally doesn’t get along well with other dogs. Vito is deeply attached to humans—he misses them and needs their company. Once properly cared for, he’ll become a wonderful four-legged friend who will join you on countless exciting adventures that we hope are waiting for him.

PL·Show original

Vito ma 6 lat, trafił do nas z interwencji. Nasi inspektorzy odebrali go w ciężkim stanie. Miał liczne rany na łapach, które przez długi czas nie były leczone. To przepiękny owczarek niemiecki. Ma ogromne zasoby energii, więc najlepiej gdyby trafił do domu, w którym zapewni się mu dużą ilość aktywności. To pies wpatrzony w swojego człowieka. Najlepiej, gdyby trafił do domu z ogrodem.

About VITO

What life with VITO looks like

VITO is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting VITO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about VITO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw VITO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt VITO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is VITO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if VITO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know VITO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
