Vitty

Female · Young · 2 years

Vitty and several other cats were sighted outdoors over a long period before they were finally secured and brought to the shelter. The shy group now lives in the cat shelter, where they are slowly settling in. Vitty was like most of her four-legged friends, neither neutered nor microchipped. She has now successfully completed the animal clinic program and can focus on her new chapter of life. Together with her friends, Vitty is being taken under the wing of our volunteer helpers. This allows them to slowly and at their own pace get used to us, as they currently tend to flee at the first opportunity. We can only speculate as to why. Since she shows no aggression but rather a great deal of fear, we hope that with enough time, she will trust us. It was somewhat difficult to photograph the female cat without stressing her. During the day, she can often be found hidden under many blankets and snuggled up closely with her friends. Vitty especially likes to snuggle with Catinka and Maleika. We will observe how these friendships develop and whether and in what configuration we can introduce the cats as pairs. In any case, Vitty should be allowed to live with another cat in her new home, one that she can orient herself by. Additionally, we only see the shy Vitty in an environment experienced by cats without small children. After a suitable period of adjustment, she should then be able to return to outdoor life. Currently, Vitty is mainly active in the shelter at night, but we hope that she will also show herself during the day and become more open to us over time. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

DE·Show original

About Vitty

What life with Vitty looks like

Vitty is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vitty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vitty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vitty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vitty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vitty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vitty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vitty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
