Vizslo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Vizslo - a sensitive companion seeking a loving home Vizslo, known as Vito at his foster home, is a fine, sensitive and wonderfully beautiful dog who needs a lot of empathy. Harsh words unsettle him - a calm, loving approach is the key to reaching him and building trust. He was quickly housebroken, but initially didn't know any commands. Currently, he is being trained diligently, and he shows great willingness to learn. Walking on a leash is already working quite well. Life in the house is still new for Vizslo, who originally comes from Spain, and many environmental stimuli sometimes overwhelm him. However, he makes daily progress and gains increasing confidence. With patience, calmness and understanding, he opens up more and more. Vizslo gets along well with other dogs and is also compatible with cats. Walks go smoothly and overall he enjoys being outdoors. A garden and proximity to nature would be ideal for him. He now happily masters short hikes and naturally shows typical breed hunting drive towards birds. Vizslo develops a very close bond with his person. An existing first dog in the new home would be helpful for him and give him additional security - nevertheless, his favorite human is always first. Due to his close bond and his calm nature around familiar people, he can also be imagined as an office dog. Vizslo is not yet suitable for a home with small children, as he lacks the necessary security. Older, understanding children who can take care of him would be possible. Overall, Vizslo is a wonderful dog with great potential that is still to be discovered. He continues to develop every day and becomes more confident. Now he is ready for his forever home.

About Vizslo

What life with Vizslo looks like

Vizslo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vizslo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vizslo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vizslo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vizslo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vizslo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vizslo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vizslo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
