Adopt Vlek

Beagle · Male · Young · 1 year

Vlek is a wonderful 1-year-old beagle puppy. He came to us from a distance. Vlek is used to living both during the day and at night inside. At night he slept in the crate and this was no problem. He does not get along with cats. He lived with a child but when the child was too busy, he would sometimes growl at it. Vlek is a very playful, sweet boy. He is a typical active beagle with a personality. Vlek is not car sick. His owner was always home so being alone still needs to be built up, but he can currently be alone for 1 to 2 hours. He is housebroken and sometimes bites things when he's bored. He does not try to escape from the garden but he does dig. Now Vlek is looking for his golden bed. He can be placed with children from 14 years old who are already able to handle dogs. He gets along with other dogs so a match can definitely be tested here at the animal shelter. Vlek is looking for loving people where he can be a 100% part of the family. Vlek is an active boy so he is looking for very active owners who can give him the exercise and challenge he deserves. Who can give our boy a warm home?

About Vlek

What life with Vlek looks like

Vlek is a young adult beagle dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vlek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vlek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vlek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vlek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vlek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vlek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vlek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
