Warme Waffle

Male · Adult · 6 years

This handsome strong boy is our Waffle; a young dog in an old body. Waffle is almost 6 years old (04-01-2020), but looks a bit older. He has a gray muzzle and also hears poorly. Waffle came to our animal shelter after his owner passed away. Waffle is a lovely guy with his own instructions. He doesn't hear very well, for example. We suspect he's not completely deaf, but he doesn't hear many sounds. So we can call to him, whistle, etc., but he doesn't look up or turn around. The advantage for him is that he can sleep wonderfully between all the barking dogs. When we first started walking Waffle, he made little contact with those he walked with. He had little interest in food, and he didn't hear us. Meanwhile, this has changed; he makes more contact on his own (usually in the hope of getting something tasty) and we are teaching him with light pressure on the leash or a gentle tap on his rump that we are still there and whether he wants to look around. Other dogs present a bigger challenge for Waffle. He reacts differently; with one dog he squeaks high, with another he barks and becomes aggressive. Because of this, he is not placed with other dogs, and during a meeting we also show how we train him here to prevent aggressive outbursts. With his previous owner, Waffle could sometimes defend his bones against strangers. We have not yet seen him defend his food at our animal shelter, but maybe if it is especially valuable, he could learn to do so. Therefore, always give him bones that he can eat quickly and try not to take them from him. With his previous owner, Waffle also chased rabbits and birds. For this reason, we do not place Waffle with other pets. He can be placed with children aged 16 or older. After getting used to it, Waffle can stay alone at home for half a day. Furthermore, Waffle is a delicious cuddly bottom and he also likes when you go running with him. Then he joyfully runs after you. He can also bark, especially in new situations or when he doesn't know what to do. Are you the cream that goes with this waffle? Then we would like to hear from you!

NL·Show original

About Warme Waffle

What life with Warme Waffle looks like

Warme Waffle is a adult dog waiting at Dierenopvangcentrum Breda in Breda.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Warme Waffle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Warme Waffle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvangcentrum Breda handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Warme Waffle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Warme Waffle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvangcentrum Breda will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Warme Waffle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Warme Waffle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvangcentrum Breda early rather than rehoming privately; they know Warme Waffle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
