Wedel

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Wedel, a dog born in 2022. Wedel is a quiet, trouble-free dog. It's still hard for him to adjust to the shelter reality, but he's getting better day by day. At first, he didn't want to leave his kennel, now he observes his surroundings sitting by the gate with hope that someone will come to him. He wasn't fond of visitors at first, but he's learned that nothing bad will happen and that he can count on being petted and receiving other affection. Even when on the play area, he approaches the handlers to draw attention and be petted. It's clear that contact with humans is important to him. He still has a problem with being led on a leash, as it's something new to him. We hope that with time, he'll master this skill, as he's still a young and smart dog. We've noticed that Wedel can get along with other dogs without any conflicts and doesn't seek trouble. He walks his own path and so far, he hasn't tried to play with anyone. He's still lacking that confidence, as if he knows that the animal shelter isn't his place and he's waiting for something better. Currently, the dog weighs around 16 kilograms, and one can say that this is a good fit for him. His appetite is good, and he doesn't get tired of eating everything he gets with relish. Wedel is a truly quiet dog, and unfortunately, due to his coloring, he doesn't stand out among the dogs under our care. We would love for him to find a warm home where he will be appreciated and become a happy, confident dog. He needs good care and constant contact with humans. Such lost dogs have a harder time in an animal shelter, and we need to do everything we can to find him a permanent home before winter. Wedel is microchipped, de-wormed, vaccinated, and neutered.

Wedel, pies urodzony w 2022r. Wedel to cichy, niekłopotliwy psiak. On potrzebuje dobrej opieki i stałego kontaktu z człowiekiem.

About Wedel

What life with Wedel looks like

Wedel is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wedel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wedel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wedel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wedel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wedel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wedel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wedel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
