Wellensittich

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Hello, I took over a budgie from poor living conditions at the end of May. He was kept alone in a small cage without sand his whole life and knew no fruit, vegetables or bathhouse. He looks ruffled, is completely bald under the wings, the tail and wing feathers are very short and he can't fly. I had him checked by an avian veterinarian and tested for viruses. Unfortunately, he has PBFD. Since he is unfortunately very lonely and I cannot do justice to him here in the long term, I am urgently looking for a home for him with other PBFD budgies, also flightless ones. I have named the little one Joshi and it is very important to me that he goes to a best possible home with fellow species, very large cage or aviary with climbing opportunities. Come and I'll bring him there gladly.

About Wellensittich

What life with Wellensittich looks like

Wellensittich is a extra-large young adult mixed breed bird waiting at Federnhilfe in Germany.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wellensittich, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wellensittich?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Federnhilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wellensittich on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wellensittich if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Federnhilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wellensittich already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wellensittich isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Federnhilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wellensittich and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
