Wicks (aka Pete)

Rottweiler · Male · Young · 2 years

Wicks (a.k.a Pete) came into our care through our Chance of a Lifetime scheme having been found as a stray in Ireland. We have found him to be a friendly boy who adores a cuddle as well as the opportunity to get his nose down and sniff and explore new places. Handsome Wicks (a.k.a Pete after the lovely Mr Wicks himself!) is a 2 year old Akita X looking for a fairly active family that can take him on lots of interesting walks and the have lots of cuddles to give him. He is a friendly boy and could join a home with children of Older Primary School age who are confident around bouncy dogs as he can jump up when excited. Wicks has walked with other dogs at the centre but can sometimes been a bit much for them as his interaction style is quite full on. He would like to be the only dog in his new home but would benefit from some doggy friends on walks to help build his social skills. We have not seen a prey drive from Wicks so he has the potential to live with a dog savvy cat and/or small furries and/or livestock providing initial introductions are carefully managed. Once settled, he could be left for short periods of time. Wicks can be worried by a crate so would prefer to travel in the boot with a dog guard or on the back seat of the car. Providing Wicks is provided with the exercise he needs, a garden is not essential, though he would love somewhere to play fetch with his new family.

About Wicks (aka Pete)

What life with Wicks (aka Pete) looks like

Wicks (aka Pete) is a small young adult rottweiler dog waiting at Dogs Trust Snetterton in Snetterton.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wicks (aka Pete), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wicks (aka Pete)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Snetterton handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wicks (aka Pete) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wicks (aka Pete) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Snetterton will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wicks (aka Pete) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wicks (aka Pete) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Snetterton early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wicks (aka Pete) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
