Widar

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Widar can directly travel to his new home! His story: Widar, the "Forest Warrior," has won his battle for survival. He was apparently abandoned in the forest with a deep wound on his back, possibly from a trap, though the exact circumstances are unclear. His name certainly lives up to him. Widar seems truly unstoppable. He is very friendly, enjoys being on a leash, and doesn't appear unsure in new situations. Our animal welfare workers believe he will definitely integrate well into a family. Now that Widar is in safety, his wound is healing very well, and he is ready to start anew in 2025. He just needs to be seen by the right people. Widar is a beautiful "purebred" stray with a great coat pattern and sparkling amber eyes. With his piercing gaze, his playful ears, and his wonderful personality, he makes every heart skip a beat. He is a medium-sized dog at 44 cm and weighs 14 kg. Widar has already passed his puppy and adolescent years and is now ready to really take off. Whether Widar is already familiar with life in a house, we don't know, but his good leash manners at least make it possible. Despite this, he certainly still has a lot to learn. That's why he is already looking forward to a proper adjustment period, where he can attend dog training classes and go on many long, adventure-filled walks in nature. But plenty of cuddle sessions are also not to be missed. Widar is looking forward to your inquiry. Once his wound is fully healed, Widar can embark on his great journey. Then he will be microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. After a positive But he would also be very happy to have a foster home. Thank you, Heike S.! You gave Widar his fitting name and thus an identity. Status: 15.12.

Stand: 15.12.2024

About Widar

What life with Widar looks like

Widar is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Widar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Widar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Widar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Widar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Widar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Widar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Widar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
