adoption requirements adoption process Adopt now this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Widou can travel directly to your final destination! Her story: Zalau, Romania. Pure joy! The lovely Widou is waiting for her own home! She was rescued from the public shelter in Zalau and is now housed in a private, paid shelter. Here, she has two advantages: she can interact with people if the time allows it and she is in safety. For in the public shelter, animals are still being killed. Widou is estimated to be around 1.5 years old and has a medium size of about 53 cm and 23 kg. She brings energy and power with her and does everything to catch the attention of people. Widou walks through life with no fear, and her harness and leash are no problem for her – even though everything is still new and she still has a lot to learn. She gets along well with her fellow animals. It could be that a German Shepherd is in Widou and she brings hunting dog genes. So she not only needs physical exercise but also mental stimulation. Widou came to the public shelter through a rescue operation by the police. Her owner had passed away, and the neighbor found out that the son-in-law wanted to hang her. So Widou had already had a home, but we unfortunately do not know how beautiful it was. One should therefore expect that the pretty mouse still has a lot to learn. She is young, active, and in the middle of puberty. A consistent but loving upbringing will help her learn the dog ABCs and grow into a confident, adult dog. Our Widou can travel to her new home neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She brings her EU pet passport with her and can be fostered as a stepping stone to a new life! Full of play, fun, action, and excitement? Then Widou is surely the right one for you! Many thanks to Frauke G.! You have given Widou her name and thus an identity!

About Widou

What life with Widou looks like

Widou is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Widou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Widou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Widou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Widou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Widou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Widou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Widou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
