Winnie

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 14 months

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Winnie has found a home! His story: Winnie doesn't just want a full food bowl and a roof over his head – he longs for a real home. The 14-month-old herding-shelter dog-mix, standing already impressive 70 cm at the shoulder, has an even bigger heart. His past was hard: After a car accident, he lay severely injured in the roadside ditch until he was finally found, cared for, and operated on. The hip operation went well, but he is still somewhat limited on his hind legs. With patience, care, and regular physiotherapy, he can make further progress and gain more quality of life. What he needs most now is a soft dog bed and loving people by his side. Additionally, Winnie should still gain a little weight and build up muscle. Visually, Winnie is a handsome fellow with light fur and a bushy tail – but his character is even more beautiful: friendly, curious, gentle, and incredibly lovable. He loves the company of people (yes, he can actually smile! ), gets along well with other dogs, and is especially gentle with puppies. So far, he knows no cats. For Winnie, we are looking for a home with plenty of space, ideally a house with a securely fenced garden in the countryside. People with experience in handling herding shelter dogs would be perfect – what's important is a loving, confident approach where trust is more important than obedience. As Winnie is still young and in the middle of his development, he needs people who have patience and joy in teaching him the dog ABC – maybe even together with a good dog training class. Winnie travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and with an EU pet passport to his new home. The adoption fee is 500 €. We would also be thrilled about a foster home. Who has an XL dog bed for this gentle giant free? Many thanks, Marina B., for taking on the namespawnship of Winnie. As of: 22.09.

About Winnie

What life with Winnie looks like

Winnie is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
