Winnie

Shih Tzu · Female · Young · 3 years

12-08-26 Winnie is a very scared girl who has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She is feeling very worried and overwhelmed at the moment and will need lots of time, love and TLC as she starts to come out of her shell. Winnie is very unsure of humans and clearly hasn't had much socialisation before, so is finding everything extremely worrying right now. She is very frightened about being handled and will run away from you to hide. At the moment, we do feel that if pushed out of her comfort zone she could choose to panic and make the wrong decision, so it will be vital that she finds a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs. Winnie will need at least one kind and confident resident dog in her new home that she can look to and rely on as she learns about home life and continues to gain confidence. She has never lived in a home before, so her adopters will need to be kind and understanding as she learns all about house training and the basics of home life. Lead walking will be too overwhelming for Winnie at this stage, so having a secure garden where she can enjoy gentle sniffs and explore at her own pace would be a great place to start. Winnie is a very worried soul who simply needs someone willing to take a chance on her and give her the time and TLC she needs to discover just how wonderful life can be. WInnie has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Winnie

What life with Winnie looks like

Winnie is a young adult shih tzu dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
