Winona

Mixed Breed · Female

Winona is one year old (as of 04/2021). She is a cute little mixed breed girl with funny ears, a superhero mask, she is extremely cuddly, grateful, modest - and she was abandoned. A friend of Arca Sevilla found Winona during a walk with her own dogs, felt the fear and uncertainty of the young female dog and couldn't bring herself to just leave the friendly creature behind. So the cute caramel candy went home with her new friends. In the following days, they looked for possible owners, but (as expected), Winona is unknown to anyone, she is (now, by now) not microchipped, not tattooed and didn't even have a collar (although it is visible that this was not always the case). Therefore, Winona was disposed of, and once again, the involved animal welfare workers comfort themselves with the thought that it is probably best for the adorable female dog to get a chance for a new start in a new great family. Until then, the people-oriented cuddle ball lives with a loving foster family and, as can be clearly seen from the pictures, enjoys being spoiled and loved. Winona plays joyfully with her fellow animals at her foster home, she is playful and balanced, gets along with everything and everyone and avoids any stress. Although she certainly hasn't only had good experiences with humans, she also happily contacts all bipeds and begs for affection and cookies with great talent. Winona is the perfect first dog, she knows life in the house, she is currently learning the first basic commands and does super well, she finds children and other dogs simply great, she is diligently practicing how to sometimes be alone at home and loves to ride in the car - honestly, it doesn't get much better... and additionally, the funny bat ear is also a really pretty girl, with whom you like to be seen on the street. We wish for Winona a super nice family, which makes the farewell from the foster family as easy as possible and wants to ensure that this separation is the last one in the lovable girl's life.

DE·Show original

About Winona

What life with Winona looks like

Winona is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
