Wituś

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 7 months

Wituś is a wonderful dog who would love to love and be loved, but unfortunately he is still afraid to open up. He has a lot of fears and quickly withdraws from new interactions, but we believe that time will change that. When he knows someone, he approaches with a hint of uncertainty, but he will lick their nose or let them pet him. He is frightened by too intense movements, he needs to get to know the other person better, and he can be aggressive towards new people, especially when someone tries to cross his boundaries too quickly. His fears are at work and Wituś tries to defend himself because he misinterprets intentions. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we really believe in Wituś and we hope that time will be a good advisor. This is a dog with a baggage of experiences that is not visible at first glance, especially in the photo, but it affects every aspect of his daily life. Fearful, withdrawn, avoiding contact - not because he does not want to be loved, but because life has taught him to be careful. If you are looking for a dog that will love you from day one - this is not the case. This dog will not greet you with a wagging tail or lie down with you after five minutes. He needs time, peace, consistency and a lot of patience. Adopting such a dog does not start with signing a contract. It is a process that requires full commitment even during his stay at the shelter - many meetings, building relationships step by step, without pressure. Only when the dog himself shows that he is ready for the next stage, you can talk about a home. It will not be an easy path. But for a person who is aware and ready to give the dog exactly as much time as he needs - it can be one of the most beautiful stories that you can write together. Are you ready? Have you already had experience working with a fearful dog, do you know what it entails? Fill out the questionnaire. Weight: 11kg Leash: no Attitude towards dogs: positive He has been neutered, dewormed, de-flead, vaccinated, chipped, registered in the Safe Animal database. Potrzebuje czasu, spokoju, konsekwencji i ogromu cierpliwości. About Wituś

What life with Wituś looks like

Wituś is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wituś, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wituś?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wituś on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wituś if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wituś already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wituś isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wituś and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
