Woody

Giant Schnauzer · Male · Senior · 13 years

Woody – loves his food, his dog bed, and hopefully also his new human family? Woody has two sides: on one hand, he is a charming senior dog who is still active and very relaxed on his walks through nature. On the other hand, he has clear principles when it comes to his resources. He came to the animal shelter because there were bite incidents in connection with resource aggression in his previous home. This behavior shows up in certain situations but can be managed with the right knowledge (which we are happy to share). Therefore, we are looking for Woody-experienced people who are aware of this responsibility and are willing to offer him a safe environment with clear structure. Integrating a dog like Woody into a household requires very careful management at home – but it is rewarded with a lot of happy dog and even more karma. What distinguishes me: I am very calm and composed when I am out I walk past people and other dogs without a problem I can walk in dog groups without issues I know the basic commands I travel well in the car and can also be left alone I am familiar with public transportation I can be motivated by food I have already lived with cats – but I hunt them when I am outside I am very friendly and loyal with familiar people What I need to work on: I defend resources like food, toys, or my sleeping spot My food is sacred – please don't argue with me about it! The best way to reward me is with treats that I can eat right away My resting place should not be in a high-traffic area I need clear rules and people with experience in dealing with resource aggression I am initially cautious with strangers – but I warm up quickly with patience What I am looking for: A structured home with confident people who have dog experience A daily routine without children and without chaos I should not be rehomed to children – ideally in a 1-2 person household The best placement would be as a single dog – a meet-and-greet at the animal shelter with a confident female dog is possible A home environment where my resource-related issues are taken seriously and well-managed Woody is a very relaxed dog when his needs are known and respected. With the right people by his side, he becomes a loyal companion who is very attuned to his human. Interested parties should plan several visits to the animal shelter to allow Woody to build trust. About Woody

What life with Woody looks like

Woody is a large senior giant schnauzer dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding behavior requiring experienced management

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Woody, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Woody?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Woody on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Woody if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Woody already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Woody isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Woody and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
