Xena (feste Interessenten)

French Bulldog · Female · Adult · 7 years

Xena is a seven-year-old, neutered French Bulldog with a very loving nature. She was reluctantly given up to the animal shelter in May due to a personal emergency. Despite this setback, Xena remains a cheerful and outgoing dog who is extremely open and friendly toward people. Various tests conducted at dog training school have confirmed that Xena is truly very kind and gentle with humans. She loves being close to her trusted caregivers and often asks to be cuddled on their laps. Xena has plenty of energy and absolutely loves going for walks. She pulls eagerly ahead on the leash, eager to explore and sniff out everything happening outside as quickly as possible. There’s definitely still room for improvement when it comes to leash manners. In any case, it would make sense for Xena to attend dog training school, as she has significant problems interacting with other dogs. This was already the case before she came to the shelter, but it has now become even more pronounced. The many dogs around her—most of which are considerably larger—really upset Xena, causing her a lot of stress. Both at the shelter and during walks, the little lady becomes quite agitated as soon as she spots other dogs. The same applies to cats. Xena defends her resources against other dogs very vigorously and seriously. In her previous home, Xena was never left alone for long; she’ll probably need to learn this gradually. From a veterinary perspective, French Bulldogs are considered to be a breed bred for extreme physical characteristics. Due to their very short skulls, this breed frequently experiences respiratory problems. Many members of the breed also struggle with spinal and eye issues. Xena has typical breed-related breathing difficulties, though these currently don’t affect her daily life. No other health concerns have been identified.Xena is looking for a home without other dogs or cats, but with people who can spend plenty of time with her. Ideally, her new family would already have experience with French Bulldogs or other bulldog breeds. If you’re interested in one of our dogs, please send us an email and include some information that will be helpful for the adoption process: your experience with dogs; your living situation; whether there are children and/or other animals in the household; and how long the dog will typically be left alone during the day. Please provide a phone number for follow-up questions.

About Xena (feste Interessenten)

What life with Xena (feste Interessenten) looks like

Xena (feste Interessenten) is a large adult french bulldog dog waiting at Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Xena (feste Interessenten), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Xena (feste Interessenten)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xena (feste Interessenten) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Xena (feste Interessenten) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Xena (feste Interessenten) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Xena (feste Interessenten) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xena (feste Interessenten) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
