Adopt Ylva

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Name: Ylva – the Large Breed: Broholmer-mixed breed Color: Brown with black mask Date of Birth: September 5, 2016 Gender: female neutered: yes AI-generated example image! Characteristics: Guten Tag dear dog lovers, I am Ylva (38 kg /SH: 68 cm) and now, as people say here, I am in my last life stage and I don’t want to spend it in the animal shelter! I am a really affectionate, gentle female dog who goes through life with much composure, but I am often quite clumsy, which always amuses my caregivers here. Generally, I am very friendly to all people, but I need some time to build trust. Children are not to my liking, so if they live in my new home, they should be in their teenage years. I like to snuggle with my trusted people and I am in constant need of closeness and physical contact. However, I am not a fan of my fellow animals, so they should not be in my new home and I generally do not want any direct contact. On walks, I behave mostly very well and am a really pleasant and calm companion, enjoying rounds of up to 30-60 minutes, I cope well with external stimuli, and I am very relaxed. Unfortunately, I have learned that I sometimes have to make sure that other dogs keep their distance, so I occasionally nip at them on the leash. I do super well in the car and probably also in public transport, so I would be happy to always be included. As I have never had to stay alone before, it would be nice if I did not have to stay alone at least initially in my new home and this can be gradually built up as needed. Due to my size and weight, I would like an ground-floor home where I don’t have to climb many stairs and where I get a lot of understanding that I am not the fittest anymore. I guarantee you that we will make a great team and I am looking forward to getting to know each other. For a meeting with me, please fill out the application form. Many thanks! Yours, Ylva Country of Origin (where the dog is currently located): Switzerland Breeding Country:

Vielen Dank! About Ylva

What life with Ylva looks like

Ylva is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ylva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ylva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ylva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ylva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ylva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ylva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ylva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
