Adopt Yuma

Female · Adult · 6 years

Dear animal lovers, could you please forward this appeal and also post it on Facebook, so that it spreads and this dog has a chance to be seen by potential adopters. URGENT foster home / new home needed! Y U M A athletic female dog with a smart mind is looking for a quiet home with clear leadership. Yuma is an approximately 5-year-old, spayed mixed-breed female dog from the Hungarian animal protection. She has been living in 49716 Meppen for five months but is now looking for a new home - because the daily life there is too wild for her in the long run. It's incredibly difficult for her family but sometimes it just doesn't fit. She is athletic and loves activities like jogging or walking, but she is calm indoors if she has her own retreat. Yuma is housebroken, walks on a leash, knows basic commands (sit, stay, stop, come) and learns quickly. She handles car rides, elevators and city noise well - as long as her primary caregiver is with her. She is friendly with people, including children, but needs clear leadership. She currently lives with two older male dogs and a young child. Her biggest issue: she can't find peace in the pack. There are always quarrels and she is very often stressed. Outside the apartment, she approaches other dogs politely. A meeting beforehand is definitely necessary to check if harmony is there. The small child and the noise at home also stress Yuma in the long run. Female dog 01.01.2020 Currently in 49716 Meppen 45 cm, 25 kg neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, healthy, EU pet passport Character: - Athletic, smart and sensitive - Calm indoors, active outdoors - People-oriented, child-friendly (from around 10 years old) - No prey drive (except with cats) - Ideal as a single dog If you can give her the necessary peace, clarity and guidance and allow her to be herself, you will gain a wonderful companion. About Yuma

What life with Yuma looks like

Yuma is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Gegen Tierelend in Ungarn e.V. in Besigheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yuma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yuma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Gegen Tierelend in Ungarn e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yuma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yuma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Gegen Tierelend in Ungarn e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yuma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yuma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Gegen Tierelend in Ungarn e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yuma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
