Zacarias

Mixed Breed · Male

Zacarias could have been euthanized. We chose not to give up on him. He was living in a feral colony when he showed up with a severe wound on his neck. He was referred to our clinic and we started immediate treatment. But the wound persisted... We were facing a feral cat considered disposable by many, with an open wound and an FIV+ diagnosis. In many other places, his fate would have been decided without hesitation. But when we looked at Zacarias, we saw something greater than the diagnosis. We saw his sweetness. His resilience. And we made a conscious decision: not to euthanize him, not to send him back to the street, to take on all the expenses and ensure him a dignified and safe life. There were several surgeries. A long recovery process. Days of uncertainty, but also of silent courage... and Zacarias showed us, time and again, that he wanted to live. Today, he is finally ready to find his family. Zacarias is a sweet, strong, and deeply grateful cat. Date of Birth: 07/2023 Adoption Form: Questions about cat adoptions:

About Zacarias

What life with Zacarias looks like

Zacarias is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Associacao Midas in Portugal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zacarias, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zacarias?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associacao Midas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zacarias on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zacarias if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associacao Midas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zacarias already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zacarias isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associacao Midas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zacarias and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
