Adopt Zappa

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

In the animal shelter since: 09.04.2024, Privatabgabe Kinderfreundlich: unbekannt Verträglich mit anderen Hunden: je nach Sympathie Katzenfreundlich: nein prey drive: leicht All-day activity suitability test (ATP): passed with his volunteer walker Nicole Zappa is a lively and exceptionally friendly German Shepherd mix. He is definitely interested in hunting; with some training, this drive can be well controlled. Zappa loves the time spent with his people—during cuddle sessions, cozy walks, and hikes. He greatly enjoys the attention and affection of his trusted people, so plenty of "quality time" with him should be a priority. Additionally, Zappa is very trainable and is enthusiastically involved. Dog meet-ups are still a bit of a novelty for him; here, the focus should be on his people during walks to handle any potential "distractors." Zappa would most like to move into a house with a garden in a quiet location. Patience is not one of his strengths, so we hope for new owners with dog experience who can guide him well and teach him to settle down. With the right training, lots of time, patience, and establishing a suitable routine, Zappa is definitely a wonderful family member and a devoted, loyal companion for life. Because the handsome fellow doesn't gauge his own strength and, as mentioned, can be very boisterous, he will not be rehomed with children. "Bigger" kids (teens aged 14 and up) should be able to handle his energy and size. This animal is good with children. Gets along with other dogs.

About Zappa

What life with Zappa looks like

Zappa is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs training for dog encounters and impulse control

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zappa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zappa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zappa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zappa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zappa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zappa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zappa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
