ZARA

Galgo Español · Female · Young · 3 years

ZARA IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION Today, we’d like to introduce you to Zara. Zara is a wonderful dog— one of those who win your heart just by looking at them. She’s incredibly affectionate, sociable, and noble. She’s perfectly happy as long as she’s by a person’s side. All she asks for is love and to feel cherished. She came to us a few months ago, and we decided to wait before introducing her because we wanted to give her the chance to recover from some lumps in her mammary glands that she’d arrived with. Today, unfortunately, we have to share some very tough news: those lumps turned out to be carcinoma. Although they’ve been completely removed, the prognosis isn’t what we’d hoped for, and her life expectancy is limited. We know that opening your heart to an animal and then saying goodbye is one of the greatest pains there is. We know many of you have promised each other, through tears, that you’d never go through that kind of suffering again. But Zara needs us. She deserves, at last, to experience what it means to have a home. She deserves to curl up warm in a bed, enjoy cozy afternoons filled with cuddles, feel a hand gently stroking her whenever someone passes by, go for walks under the sun, and discover what it truly means to be someone’s top priority. We don’t know how much time she has left— it could be two years, give or take. What we do know is that every single day she has ahead of her deserves to be filled with love. We’re sorry it took us so long to come into your life, princess. But we promise you we’ll do everything in our power to make sure the time she does have is filled with happiness, care, and all the love she’s always been missing. If you believe you can give her the home she so deeply deserves—if you want to turn the time she has left into the most beautiful chapter of her life—please write to us! ✉️ Zara doesn’t need a perfect life. She just needs a family that will love her forever, no matter how much time that may be.

About ZARA

What life with ZARA looks like

ZARA is a large young adult galgo español dog waiting at Asociación Animalejos in Spain.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting ZARA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ZARA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Asociación Animalejos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ZARA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ZARA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Asociación Animalejos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ZARA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ZARA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Asociación Animalejos early rather than rehoming privately; they know ZARA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
