Zazu

Mixed Breed · Male

Zazu, a dog born in January 2025. Zazu is a cute, medium-sized dog with a beautiful red coat and a weight of about 9.7 kg. Although he is now in good health, his history is not an easy one. He arrived at the animal shelter extremely underweight and very frightened, which clearly affected his perception of the world and relationships with people. Zazu is a dog with great potential, but also with clear needs. He is naturally distrustful of strangers and needs time to trust new people. However, with caregivers he has already met, he is making gradual progress - he can approach, establish contact and is increasingly finding his way in the daily routine of the animal shelter. This is a big step forward, indicating his ability to build relationships if given the right support. He is a high-energy dog - lively, overexcited and sometimes mischievous. He loves activity and especially feels good on the run, where he can move freely and release emotions. Playing with toys brings him great joy and is a great way to build a bond with a person. At the same time, working on his self-control and calmness will be an important element in his new home. Zazu tolerates other dogs, and a special bond connects him with female dog Zoe, with whom he arrived at the animal shelter. The dogs understand each other very well and support each other, so a shared home would be ideal for this pair. The presence of Zoe gives Zazu a sense of security and can significantly ease his adaptation to a new environment. The relationship between Zazu and cats is unknown. In terms of feeding, he can be picky, which may require patience and adjusting the diet to his preferences. Currently, he is learning to walk on a leash and basic social skills. This process is gradual and requires consistency, calmness and a positive approach. Zazu is a dog that needs a caring, patient and willing caregiver who is ready to work with the dog through transitions - preferably in a quiet environment, without excess stimuli. We are looking for a home for Zazu that will provide him with safety, stability and the time needed to fully open up. This is a dog who, with proper guidance, has a chance to become a loyal and engaged companion - his progress so far shows that it's worth giving him this chance. Zazu is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated, chipped and spayed.

Zazu, pies urodzony w 01.2025 roku. Zazu to uroczy, średniej wielkości pies o pięknym rudym umaszczeniu i wadze około 9,7 kg. Zazu toleruje inne psy, a szczególna więź łączy go z suczką Zoe, z którą trafił do schroniska.

About Zazu

What life with Zazu looks like

Zazu is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zazu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zazu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zazu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zazu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zazu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zazu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zazu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
