Zefir &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Zefir and his two sisters, Pippi and Langstrumpf, are the survivors from a litter of six. They were found abandoned in a backyard in Charkiv and were subsequently reared at the local animal clinic. Zefir and one of his sisters suffered from an intestinal infection, which is why Zefir requires a stomach-friendly diet. In April 2022, all three were then allowed to board the evacuation transport to Starnberg. Zefir is full of the desire for human affection and demands it with a stormy yet gentle enthusiasm. He is young, playful, cuddly, very eager to learn, and wants to please his primary caregiver. He simply wants to be loved and liked. He greets both humans and animals with friendliness. When it comes to large unfamiliar dogs, he is still very cautious. Zefir can be placed in a family with larger and understanding children from around 10 years old and with other friendly animals. Whether Zefir is cat-friendly has not yet been tested, but with professional guidance from a dog trainer, this is certainly possible. Given that he has not learned much in his previous life, it is recommended that he attend dog training classes or work with a dog trainer. Light hunting tendencies are noticeable. He adapts well to new external stimuli and is open to his environment. Zefir’s past was characterized by the theme of survival, with no time for individual dog training. He should now be able to make up for this with patient, knowledgeable hands that can foster, challenge, and set limits without overwhelming him. Zefir has finally found his fortune and was allowed to move into his new “forever” home. We wish him all the best on his further life journey! About Zefir &#8211

What life with Zefir &#8211 looks like

Zefir &#8211 is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zefir &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zefir &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zefir &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zefir &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zefir &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zefir &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zefir &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
