Adopt Zelda – HOME PENDING

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

This beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd almost broke the internet with her rescue story in May 2024 – tied up, emaciated and defending her 7 discarded pups – but in spite of the outpouring of love for her, she has had no offer of a home. Zelda is the most human-oriented dog at WCAWG. She is happy, gentle and affectionate with all people, she would do fine in a busy home or a calm home, a home with children (12+) or a home without children, all she needs is to love and be loved. The only essential requirement for Zelda is a secure garden in a rural area. The garden should be reasonably large so she has plenty of room to exercise at home. Zelda is not good with all dogs which is why we would prefer rural so there is less chance of her meeting other dogs on her walks. She is strong so it could be hard for an owner walking her in an urban setting. We’re heartbroken that Zelda is waiting this long. She is the most loving of all the dogs and we can see that this prolonged spell at our rescue is becoming harder for her. Please share her story so we can find her her happy outcome – noone deserves it more. If you think you can answer our prayers for Zelda and offer her a new love-filled future please fill in our Adoption Questionnaire – West Cork Animals

About Zelda – HOME PENDING

What life with Zelda – HOME PENDING looks like

Zelda – HOME PENDING is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Zelda – HOME PENDING, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zelda – HOME PENDING?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zelda – HOME PENDING on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zelda – HOME PENDING if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zelda – HOME PENDING already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zelda – HOME PENDING isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zelda – HOME PENDING and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
