Zeus (1)

Akita · Unknown

Meet Zeus Zeus is a beautiful adolescent dog with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. Due to the declining health of his owner, he has sadly found himself adjusting to life in kennels and all the changes that come with it. Although it has been a big transition leaving the family home he knew, Zeus has been settling well and enjoying regular walks and time spent with our team and volunteers as we continue to get to know him better. Zeus is an affectionate and people focused boy who truly enjoys human company. Despite his excitement and youthful energy, he loves close contact and happily leans in for cuddles, strokes, and attention. He enjoys being fussed over and is comfortable being handled on his head, back, and sides. Zeus also loves toys and plays enthusiastically while sharing well, happily allowing toys to be taken from him without issue. He is a confident, energetic, and playful young dog who enjoys interaction and companionship. In his previous home, Zeus was relaxed within his environment and unfazed by everyday household noises, people passing by, or activity around him. This confidence continues out on walks where he shows himself to be environmentally sound and curious about the world around him. At the start of walks, Zeus can be enthusiastic and full of energy, but once he has had the opportunity to decompress and explore, he settles into a calmer pace and is capable of walking close to heel. He enjoys sniffing, taking in his surroundings, and remains calm around noise and unexpected activity without excessive barking or pulling. Zeus is an intelligent dog who responds extremely well to positive, reward based training. He takes treats gently, even when excited, and already knows several commands including sit, lie down, stay, wait, and paw. He is able to maintain focus well and clearly enjoys learning, showing excellent potential for continued training and mental stimulation. He also enjoys grooming and being handled. Socially, Zeus is happy to meet friendly and non-aggressive dogs and can interact politely when introductions are managed appropriately. He has also shown himself to be gentle with children who approach calmly and respectfully, especially when offering treats. However, due to his size and bouncy enthusiasm, he would be best suited to a home with children aged 12 years and over. Zeus has shown no strong prey drive and will calmly observe birds and other animals, although he would not be suitable to live with cats. Zeus would thrive in an active home where he can enjoy regular exercise, longer walks, ongoing training, and continued socialisation. Like many young, energetic dogs, he will benefit from clear and consistent boundaries to help manage his excitement and jumping up. He would suit an adopter with experience of larger or energetic breeds, or someone committed to continuing his training and helping him mature into the fantastic companion he is capable of becoming. Zeus could happily live as the only pet in the home, or potentially with a calm, spayed, large breed female dog following careful introductions. This loving, intelligent, and full of life young dog has so much potential. With the right guidance, companionship, and outlet for his energy, Zeus will make a loyal, affectionate, and fun addition to the right home. Could that be you? If so please complete an adoption form today. Thank you.

About Zeus (1)

What life with Zeus (1) looks like

Zeus (1) is a extra-large adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus (1), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus (1)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus (1) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus (1) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus (1) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus (1) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus (1) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
