Update 15.06.2022 Zeus has moved out! Hello, I am Zeus. Not much can be said about me yet. All that is known is that I arrived at an animal shelter in Portugal at 8 weeks old and lived there for a long time. Out of boredom, I started spinning in circles and biting the bars, which people call a penning. Someone noticed this and arranged for me to be moved to Germany. Here, I am very unsure at first and need some time to settle in. But then, I am a real power package. As I have not had much to learn or experience so far, a visit to dog training classes would be very important for me to avoid picking up any bad habits. During walks, I have behaved well so far, but I need clear rules to keep it that way. I am compatible with other dogs and share an outdoor run with two other dogs, but when the caretakers come, the party starts; we are all out of control :-). But in my new home, there does not necessarily have to be a dog already living there; I believe it would be even more enjoyable to be alone. Whether I know and accept other animals cannot be said yet, so they should not live in my new home. Therefore, all sportsy people out there who are looking for a great companion, please contact my caretakers quickly and arrange a meet-and-greet.

About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a adult dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
