Adopt Zeus

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Hello, my name is Zeus. I came to the Starnberger animal shelter about 4 years ago, where I was given by a Ukrainian family. I wasn't exactly easy in the animal shelter, but over time, I got used to the people there; they brought me down, cuddled me, and gave me my medications. There was a particular animal caregiver who really took to me, but since she already has a female dog and no room for me, she introduced me to her brother. He was often at the animal shelter to get to know me, and it was love at first sight.♥ We got along really well, went for walks together (back then, still with a muzzle), and spent a lot of time with each other. Weeks later, it was time for me to go on a trial stay with my new owner. At first, everything was a bit much, and I had to settle in, but now we're a well-oiled team. I even understand some German commands like sit, stay, blanket, etc. Right now, I'm learning the free run and recall, and it's going super well. I always give my best! Honestly, that's how I imagined my home, and I'm super happy. Where I now live, everyone loves me and has learned to handle me properly, just as I've learned to handle them properly. My owner even has a little daughter with whom I get along great, and I feel very, very comfortable. This is probably my happy ending, and it's even better than I could have imagined…. PS: Warm regards to the entire animal shelter team, and a big thank you for the loving and time-consuming care. Thank you for ensuring that every animal finds its suitable home. :). This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
