Zhuk (Жук)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Once, the dog Zhuk, a pet, ended up on the street after his owner died. A volunteer constantly fed the animal and took care of it. But life on the street is never safe - Zhuk was hit by a car (according to volunteers' assumption). The animal was found only on the third day. Zhuk was very exhausted and could not move on his own. Due to the pain, the animal did not want to come to the hands. However, thanks to the persistence of volunteers, they managed to take the dog to a veterinary hospital. Unfortunately, later it turned out that in the first veterinary hospital, when examining the X-ray image, the veterinarians made a mistake in their conclusions, indicating the absence of fractures. The dog was taken to an animal shelter, but Zhuk was fading before their eyes and stopped eating. It was decided to examine the dog in another veterinary hospital. A repeated X-ray showed the need for urgent surgery, which at that moment the dog was not ready for (elevated temperature, inflammation). For 10 days, Zhuk was treated and prepared for surgery. To enable the animal to fully recover movement (the ability to walk on four legs), it was necessary to implant a device costing 5000 $. Due to the impossibility of making such a manipulation at the moment, another operation was performed, which will allow Zhuk to return to a full life after rehabilitation. The animal is currently in an animal shelter and is undergoing expensive rehabilitation, the dog requires special nutrition and anti-parasitic treatment (pills Bravecto and Milbemax). The initial cost of treatment and rehabilitation is - 8000 грн. Now Zhuk is very hoping for your support and is waiting for loving owners who will not be scared of the difficulties in the dog's life (The puppy is being placed only in the city of Dnipro). The treatment of Zhuk continues. As of 15.04.22, enough money was collected. Thank you all kind donors. 24.05.2022, Zhuk returned to his usual territory. In the animal shelter, the dog felt uncomfortable because he was used to living freely. 11.07.

About Zhuk (Жук)

What life with Zhuk (Жук) looks like

Zhuk (Жук) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇺🇦Adopting from Ukraine

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zhuk (Жук), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zhuk (Жук)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zhuk (Жук) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zhuk (Жук) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zhuk (Жук) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zhuk (Жук) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zhuk (Жук) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
