Adopt Zilli

Kangal · Female · Adult · 6 years

Zilli is a gentle giant who is looking for a new home experienced in large breeds. She is a Kangal who came in to us through no fault of her own and is now based at Battersea Old Windsor. With the people she knows and trusts, Zilli is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than stretching out beside her favourite humans. She has been quick to win over the hearts of everyone she meets with her loving nature and gentle personality. Zilli’s favourite thing is being outdoors, whether she is having a run around the garden or snoozing in a shady patch. A home with a large private garden will be essential for Zilli so she can continue to enjoy the outdoors in her own time. In her previous home, Zilli spent much of her time outdoors, so she may need a little patience and guidance as she adjusts to living in a home environment. While Zilli can make the occasional dog friend, she has had reactions towards unknown dogs and people. For this reason, she is looking for a new home willing to continue her training and management, as well as manage a large and strong dog. We are putting some training in place to help Zilli with her lead walking but this is an area that her owners will need to continue working on. She has been much more relaxed when visiting rural areas, taking in her surroundings and interacting more comfortably with other dogs. Due to this, Zilli is looking for a home in a peaceful area with less hustle and bustle around her. Zilli has a wonderful history when it comes to handling and care. She enjoys baths, brushing sessions, and all the attention that comes with them. Once she has built a bond, she will greatly enjoy a pamper session with her new owners. Zilli will make an incredibly rewarding and devoted companion for the right home. About Zilli

What life with Zilli looks like

Zilli is a extra-large adult kangal dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zilli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zilli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zilli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zilli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zilli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zilli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zilli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
