Zita

Mixed Breed · Female

Yes, I am already an older lady, but do you know what? I still have so much to give! 💛 I am a mixed-breed girl, calm, gentle, and composed. I have seen a lot in my life: over ten years in a Romanian shelter, through wind, rain, and snow. We dogs there didn't have warm indoor spaces, only small huts. During this time, I learned to be quiet, to wait patiently, and to hope. A few years ago, I had surgery on my salivary gland, and during my recovery, I was allowed to stay briefly in a home with a kind caregiver. There, I not only learned the basics of being a dog, but I also experienced for the first time what it feels like to sleep in a house, run on a meadow, ride in a car, and climb stairs. I learned so much, and most importantly, I realized how much I would love to have a real home. Today, I live in a foster home in Saarland. The people here say that I am exactly the treasure that the caregivers in Romania described me as. I get along with everyone, dogs, cats, children, and even goats! I am calm, balanced, friendly to everyone, walk beautifully on a leash, and appreciate every loving gesture. Only during storms or thunder, I get restless and need a bit more closeness to feel safe. My blood values are good for my age, and my chronic salivary gland hyperfunction neither affects my quality of life nor requires special care. I enjoy life, especially walks, cuddle times, and quiet moments next to my humans. But the foster home is very busy, too busy for an older lady like me. I wish for a quiet, warm-hearted home with people who can give me love, affection, and security and who appreciate the wisdom of an older dog. A dear dog companion by my side would be wonderful, as I lived for many years in the shelter with two other female dogs. Would you like to fulfill my greatest wish and give me a home where I can finally settle in?

About Zita

What life with Zita looks like

Zita is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
