Zita

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

If you've ever wondered what happiness looks like in dog form, you have to meet Zita. She is the very definition of joy. And that's why her story touches hearts even more. Like Mony, Zita was one of the survivors from a horrific case of dog breeding that shook Croatia. The first years of her life were spent as nothing but "puppy machines" - locked in dark caves and stables, without freedom, without sun, and without any tenderness or love. But today you would hardly recognize it. As soon as she arrived at the shelter, Zita opened her heart to life. Every day she blooms more, discovering the world with endless curiosity and always a happy tail wagging. If she is so happy in the shelter, we can only imagine how much she will flourish in a real home. Zita gets along well with other dogs and loves people. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys every opportunity for a walk, petting, and closeness to her people. She is gentle, cheerful, and very attached, always ready for new friendships. Enough of surviving. Now it's time to start living.

Ako ste se ikada pitali kako izgleda sreća u psećem obliku, morate upoznati Zitu. Ona je sama definicija radosti. I upravo zato njezina priča još više dira u srce. No danas biste to teško mogli prepoznati. Čim je stigla u sklonište, Zita je otvorila srce životu. Svakim danom sve više cvjeta, otkriva svijet s beskrajnom znatiželjom i uvijek veselim repom. I upravo zato njezina priča još više dira u srce. About Zita

What life with Zita looks like

Zita is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azil Dubrovnik in Croatia.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azil Dubrovnik handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azil Dubrovnik will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azil Dubrovnik early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
