Adopt ZORBA

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

The ZORBA was found in the middle of a road, stretched out, not moving. It was rescued by the Municipal Dog Shelter where it stayed for about a month. It wasn't injured, but it couldn't walk. It was full of pain. But nothing was done! The ZORBA lost a lot of weight. The dog shelter asked for our help. We immediately took the ZORBA to the Arrábida Veterinary Hospital where it was hospitalized for about 3.5 months. All necessary tests were done. At one point, the ZORBA was taking 7 medications a day. It underwent intense physiotherapy and it worked! The ZORBA started walking and even running. It also gained weight. Of course, it still walks stiffly, but it leads a normal life. It is now at The Corner where it lives with all the other dogs. It is a sweetheart. Very gentle with people. The ZORBA is a survivor and finally deserves to be happy. It will be delivered vaccinated, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped.

Fez fisioterapia intensa e resultou!

About ZORBA

What life with ZORBA looks like

ZORBA is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Recovered from mobility issues, walks with slight stiffness but lives normally

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting ZORBA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ZORBA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ZORBA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ZORBA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ZORBA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ZORBA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know ZORBA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
