zzy

Chihuahua · Male · Adult · 5 years

Ozzy is a very sensitive dog who needs time to build trust. He initially approaches strangers with caution and reserve. Once he has found a person of reference, however, he develops a close bond and shows himself to be extremely attached, loving and people-oriented. Ozzy strongly identifies with his humans and enjoys the closeness and security that familiar persons give him. Typical for a Chihuahua, Ozzy is attentive, intelligent, playful and very loyal to his humans. At the same time, he also brings the typical sensitivity of many representatives of his breed and needs an understanding home that gives him the necessary security. Currently, Ozzy shows a clear defensive behavior when it comes to resources, especially food. In such situations, he can react defensively towards other dogs as well as people. His new humans should therefore have experience in dealing with dogs and be willing to accompany this topic calmly, consistently and understandingly. Additionally, Ozzy tends to claim important resources for himself. This not only concerns food, but also sometimes his person of reference. If he has built a close bond with a human, it can happen that he shields him from other people or tries to influence social situations. In a multi-person household, this could manifest itself, for example, in the fact that he prefers one person and shows controlling or possessive behavior towards other people. Ozzy therefore needs humans who can convey clear structures, reliable rules and fair leadership to him. With consistent, calm handling and corresponding dog experience, we see this behavior as manageable. Ozzy is an intelligent dog who is quite willing to orientate himself on his human if they give him security and clear boundaries. We suspect that Ozzy has not yet experienced being left alone. His new humans should therefore have enough time with him and build up the loneliness gently with him. For Ozzy, we wish a quiet home without children. Ideally, he moves in with an individual or a couple with dog experience, preferably with experience in dealing with Chihuahuas or other sensitive small dogs. People who can read his body language and have understanding for his initial uncertainty will find in Ozzy a loyal companion for life. With his current partner dog in the animal shelter, Ozzy gets along well. A confident first dog could therefore be an option, but this would need to be checked individually. If you give Ozzy time to build trust, he will be rewarded with an incredibly faithful, cuddly and lovable little dog who just wants to belong. We look forward to your inquiry if you want to get to know Ozzy.

About zzy

What life with zzy looks like

zzy is a adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim Krefeld in Krefeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting zzy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about zzy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Krefeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw zzy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt zzy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Krefeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is zzy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if zzy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Krefeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know zzy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
