18-05-26 Pandora has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She is a scared little girl who is worried to find herself here at the moment, but she is trying ever so hard to be brave. If approached slowly and gently, Pandora is happy to enjoy a little fuss and is beginning to show what a sweet girl she is. Pandora is looking for a calm and quiet home and would benefit from adoptors who have experience of ex-breeding dogs and understand that she will need plenty of time, patience and reassurance as she settles into her new life. She gains confidence from the company of other dogs and will need at least one other kind and confident resident dog in her new home to be her friend and help her show her way. She can live with older, dog-savvy teenagers aged 16+ who are sensible and will allow her time to settle in at her own pace. Having never lived in a home before, everything will be new to Pandora and her adoptors will need to be kind and understaning as she learns all about home life. She will need help with house training. She walks well on a harness but it is advised to initially practice around the safety of the garden to help build her confidence. She will need an extra secure fence of at least 6ft to ensure her safety. Although Pandora is not yet walking on a lead, we feel she will be best suited to an active home where, once she has gained confidence and learned all about the world around her, she will be able to enjoy lots of adventures with her family. With time, patience and the support of her doggy friend, we are sure Pandora will blossom into a wonderful companion. Our vets have noted that she has a Grade 1 heart murmur, which doesn't require any medication but will need to be monitored by her adoptors and their vet going forward. She also came to us with a fluid-filled swelling on the side of her face, which our vets diagnosed as a salivary mucocele. This occurs when a salivary gland becomes damaged, allowing saliva to leak into the surrounding tissue, where it collects and forms a soft, usually painless, pocket of fluid. Our vets have drained this and it has remained stable so far. However, it is likely to gradually refill over the coming weeks or months and would need to be draind again if this happens. The only permanent treatment is surgery to remove the affected salivary gland, which would need to be carried out by a specialist. Pandora's adoptors would need to be aware that any vet treatment surrounding this would not be coverable by insurance as it's pre-existing. This dog can be homed with a resident dog. Since then, she has really come out of her shell and is blossoming into the sweetest little girl. She recently moved to a wonderful foster home where she is getting to experience home life for the very first time and is settling in so well and now absolutely loves having a fuss and attention. She gets on very well with the other dogs in foster, but especially loves the humans! She sleeps soundly all night with the other dogs and is happy to be left for a few hours. Pandora will be looking for a calm and quiet home and would benefit from adopters who have experience of ex-breeding dogs and understand that she will need love and TLC as she settles into her new home. She loves other dogs and would love to have another kind and confident resident dog in her new home to be her friend, but in the right circumstances and with adopters who are around most of the time, we would consider homing her as an only dog. She can live with older, dog-savvy teens aged 16+ who are sensible and will allow her time to settle in at her own pace.
