Galan est le cheval le plus calme de la finca, mais ce n'était pas le cas au début. Ce bel homme a une histoire inhabituelle qui montre la puissance de l'ignorance et des informations erronées plutôt que d'un manque d'attention. Nous avons acheté Galan en tant que « cheval de selle ». Nous ne l'avons pas récupéré comme un sauvetage typique, bien qu'il soit évident pour nous qu'il l'était. Lorsque nous sommes allés le voir, il était tout attelé et bondissait dans le milieu de la route. Trois hommes le tenaient en place, un grand mors lourd dans sa bouche. Quelqu'un est monté pour nous montrer ses capacités de selle et il était comme un ressort tendu. On nous a dit que son alimentation consistait en des kilos d'avoine par jour et qu'il passait 100 % de son temps dans un box. Les personnes qui possédaient actuellement Galan étaient un couple jeune très sympathique, mais en recevant de mauvais conseils, ils ont fini par avoir un cheval incontrôlable qu'ils devaient se débarrasser car la situation empirait. On ne pouvait pas le monter car il était considéré comme fou, mais il devenait fou car il ne bougeait pas. La première nuit avec nous, Galan avait creusé un grand trou en se tournant et en marchant si frénétiquement qu'il avait le genou blessé à cause du piétinement continu et du coup de pied contre la barrière, ses dents étaient toutes abîmées et sa langue brûlée à cause de la cribbing continue, et sa fourrure était emmêlée de sueur. La nuit 2, il a marché doucement et a fait de la cribbing, le jour 3, toutes les habitudes étaient totalement disparues sauf la cribbing. Jusqu'à aujourd'hui, il fait encore cela car il ne peut pas complètement oublier son passé stressant. Le pauvre Galan a également eu des muscles enflés douloureux sur le côté du cou dus à une position forcée pendant la selle. Cela lui a pris 1 an pour se détendre et abandonner cette position artificielle. Même sans contact d'un cavalier. Ce bel homme a subi des traitements pour un parasite rare dans son sang qui causait une grande gêne et une perte de poids. Les conseils vétérinaires précédents étaient de nourrir des kilos et des kilos d'avoine par jour (conseil courant sur cette île, et nous comprenons maintenant pourquoi les anciens propriétaires ont fait cela), mais heureusement un autre vétérinaire a découvert son problème et depuis lors, il n'a plus d'affections physiques mais garde beaucoup de peur dans ses souvenirs. Avec beaucoup de temps, de patience, en revenant aux bases, en gagnant sa confiance grâce à la formation ciblée et aux méthodes de renforcement positif, Galan est maintenant le cheval le plus calme de la Finca. Il a vraiment aimé faire des promenades à travers la campagne et profite maintenant de sa retraite. Une transformation totale et un bon dénouement pour ce bel homme.

Galan is the calmest horse on the finca, but it didn't start this way This lovely boy has an unusual story that shows the power of ignorance and false information rather than neglect. We actually bought Galan as a ‘riding horse'. We didn’t get him as a typical rescue, although it was obvious to us that he was. When we went to view him, he was all tacked up and bouncing around in the middle of the road. 3 men holding him still, big heavy bit in his mouth. Someone got on to show us his riding ability and he was like a coiled spring. We were told that his food consisted of kilos of oats a day and he lived 100% of his time in a stable. The people who currently owned him were a lovely young couple but by being given bad advice they ended up with an uncontrollable horse they needed to get rid of as the situation was getting worse. He couldn’t be ridden as he was considered crazy, but he was getting crazy as he wasn't moving. The first night with us, Galan had dug a huge hole from weaving and pacing so franticly, his knee was bleeding from continual stamping and kicking the fence, his teeth were gone and tongue blistered due to continual cribbing and his hair was matted with sweat. Night 2 he paced gently and cribbed, day 3 all vices were totally gone accept his cribbing. To this day he still does this as he can't totally forget his stressful past. Poor Galan also came with huge swollen painful muscles on the side of his neck from a forced outline whilst riding. This took 1 year for him to relax and drop this unnatural position. Even without any contact from a rider. This lovely boy has been through treatments for a rare parasite in his blood which caused extreme discomfort and weight loss, previous veterinary advice was to feed kilos and kilos of oats a day (common advice on this island, and we understand why his previous owners did this now) but fortunately another vet discovered his problem and nowadays he has no physical ailments but holds a lot of fear in his memories. With a lot of time, patience, going back to basics and gaining his trust with target training and positive reinforcement methods Galan is now the calmest horse on the Finca. He thoroughly enjoyed riding along the countryside and is now enjoying his retirement. A total transformation and a happy ending for this beautiful boy.
