Gigi is a very worried lady who has come to us from a breeder. When she first arrived, she was terrified of people and would try to escape any area she was in if she thought someone might approach her. Thankfully, she has made lovely progress and is now much more relaxed around the carers she knows. She has settled into her routine and will even come over for little sniffs when her kennel friends approach for attention. She is also much easier to handle now and, when worried, will retreat to her safe corner rather than trying to flee. Despite her progress, Gigi remains a flight risk and her safety must always be a priority. Her adopters will need to be very safety-conscious and have a very secure garden with fencing at least 6ft high. Moving to a new environment may cause her confidence to regress, so precautions will be essential to keep her safe. We hope to begin harness training with her, but this will need to be introduced slowly and carefully. Double-leading will be absolutely essential for a long time to come. Gigi absolutely loves other dogs and is delighted to meet them, wanting to be friends with everyone! She will need a kind, confident resident dog who genuinely enjoys canine company and can take her under their wing, helping her feel secure and guiding her through the different aspects of home life. She will need this dog to be Cocker Spaniel sized or larger and cannot be homed with smaller dogs. As Gigi has never lived in a home before, she will need patient adopters who can help her learn about house training, lead walking and all the new experiences that come with being a much-loved pet. She needs an adult-only home with experience of ex-breeding dogs, where her fears are understood and she is given the time, space and reassurance she needs to settle at her own pace. Gigi has come a long way already, and with the right home, a loving canine companion and plenty of time and patience, we believe she has the potential to continue blossoming. Her new family must be prepared to put in as much time and effort as she needs, taking everything slowly and steadily so she can learn that life can be a wonderful place to be. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
