Son nom est encore plus approprié : Zoe, qui signifie Vie. Lorsque nous l'avons prise du refuge municipal de Krestena et placée sur la banquette arrière de la voiture pour la ramener à Athènes, nous n'étions pas certains de vouloir lui donner un nom. Elle était dans un état critique tel que nous craignions qu'elle ne survive pas au voyage. Mais la personne qui la transportait a décidé de la nommer « Zoe », dans l'espoir que cela lui apporterait de la chance. Et ça a marché. Zoe est arrivée extrêmement maigre, incapable de marcher et avec une profonde plaie de pression sur la hanche. Son état semblait être le résultat d'une longue période de famine. Avec des soins constants, elle a lentement commencé à se rétablir. Chaque jour, avec patience et persévérance, les personnes qui s'occupaient d'elle l'ont aidée à se tenir debout et ont encouragé à marcher. Elles ne l'ont jamais abandonnée. Et puis, elle l'a fait, elle a marché. Aujourd'hui, son seul problème restant est une vision limitée dans un œil, ce qui n'affecte pas sa vie quotidienne. Zoe s'est transformée, ou plutôt, elle a enfin révélé qui elle était vraiment sous ce corps fragile que nous avions placé sur la banquette arrière, vérifiant à plusieurs reprises si elle respirait encore. Elle est maintenant le chien doux, joyeux, affectueux et joueur qu'elle était destinée à être, mais qu'on lui avait refusé la possibilité de devenir. À partir de maintenant, sa vie ne fera qu'aller mieux et cette joie sera complète lorsqu'elle trouvera enfin une maison à elle.

Her name couldn’t be more fitting: Zoe, meaning Life. When we took her from the municipal shelter of Krestena and placed her in the back seat of the car to bring her to Athens, we weren’t sure whether to name her at all. She was in such a critical condition that we feared she might not survive the journey. But the person transporting her decided to call her “Zoe,” in the hope that it might bring her luck. And it did. Zoe arrived severely emaciated, unable to walk, and with a deep pressure wound on her hip. Her condition appeared to be the result of prolonged starvation. With consistent care, she slowly began to recover. Day by day, with patience and persistence, the people caring for her helped her stand and encouraged her to walk. They never gave up on her. And then, she did it, she walked. Today, her only remaining issue is limited vision in one eye, which does not affect her daily life. Zoe has transformed or rather, she has finally revealed who she always was beneath that fragile body we placed on the back seat, checking again and again if she was still breathing. She is now the gentle, joyful, affectionate, and playful dog she was meant to be, but was once denied the chance to become. From here on, her life will only get happier and that happiness will be complete when she finally finds a home of her own.
