Alfie è un incrocio di media taglia che ha circa tre anni. Non ancora testato con i gatti. Preferisce essere l'unico cane. Bambini rispettosi di 10 anni in su. Alfie era stato recentemente accolto nel rifugio pubblico di Botoșani in Romania quando siamo stati in marzo. Era totalmente terrorizzato e completamente chiuso nell'ambiente in cui era stato gettato. Durante i giorni in cui eravamo lì, il team ha lavorato con lui e quando noi abbiamo lasciato, venivamo accolti con danze felici e una coda che scodinzolava. Era prenotato per andare sul primo trasporto possibile e ora è qui nel Regno Unito alla ricerca della sua casa per sempre. Alfie è un ragazzo vivace e amichevole che forma forti legami con le persone. Sarebbe meglio che fosse l'unico cane in casa poiché può essere competitivo per giocattoli e cibo, ma un adottatore esperto potrebbe gestirlo anche con un altro cane. Questo terrà sicuro il tuo cane: il tuo nuovo cane sarà nervoso e non ti farà fiducia e tu non saprai quali situazioni potrebbero turbarlo. Se il tuo cane si spaventa, allora il guinzaglio a scatto è l'unica via per evitare che scappi (molti cani possono scappare da collare e/o finimenti). Ci vorranno ALMENO 3-6 mesi perché il tuo cane si abitui e tu lo conosca pienamente (più a lungo per i cani nervosi). Il guinzaglio a scatto deve essere SEMPRE utilizzato durante questo periodo di abituarsi. Anche dopo che il tuo cane si è abituato, è più sicuro utilizzare il guinzaglio a scatto in situazioni in cui il cane potrebbe spaventarsi (es. visitare luoghi nuovi, intorno a persone sconosciute, dal veterinario), e in situazioni dove potrebbero verificarsi trigger inaspettati (es. intorno al fuoco d'artificio). I cani nervosi potranno dover indossare sempre un guinzaglio a scatto come misura di sicurezza aggiuntiva. Il guinzaglio a scatto è un dispositivo di sicurezza e mai deve essere usato come strumento di addestramento. Usare il guinzaglio per applicare pressione sul collo del cane è dannoso. Se il tuo cane tira il guinzaglio, possiamo consigliarti metodi di addestramento che evitino danni. Alfie had recently been taken into the Botoşani public shelter in Romania when we visited in March. He was absolutely terrified and completely shut down at the environment he’d been plunged into. During the days that we were there the team worked with him and by the time we left they were being greeted with happy dances and a wagging tail. He was booked to come on the first possible transport and is now here in the UK looking for his forever home. Alfie is a playful and friendly boy who forms strong bonds with his human. He would be best to be the only dog in the home as he can be competitive over toys and food but an experienced adopter could manage him with another dog. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
