Alcuni cani non hanno mai avuto la possibilità di essere innocenti. Sono quelli che sono cresciuti per strada, basandosi sull'istinto per sopravvivere. Krista è uno di loro. Per anni è stata sola, responsabile di tutto, del suo cibo, della sua acqua, del suo sonno, cercando un posto per rinfrescarsi in estate e riscaldarsi in inverno. Non aveva davvero un'altra opzione. L'abbiamo trovata malata. Il suo corpo era in condizioni molto povere, problemi cutanei, leishmaniosi. Come paziente era eccezionale e molto collaborativa, e si è ripresa completamente. È con noi al rifugio da allora. Krista è un cane dolce. Silenzioso e molto dolce, capisce molto, sa come funziona una passeggiata, si sente a suo agio al guinzaglio e si adatta facilmente a una routine. Il suo passato l'ha insegnato a essere autonoma, e non chiederà mai di più di quanto necessita. Ha anche un abitudine che amiamo. Una volta al giorno fa la sua piccola vittoria intorno al rifugio, passando davanti ai box con energia, come se stesse dicendo: "Sono Krista e sto bene". E ha ben diritto di farlo. Se lo è meritato. Potrebbe volerci un po' di tempo per aprirsi in una nuova casa, e all'inizio potrebbe essere un po' esitante o trovare un quartiere affollato con tante persone e automobili soffocante. Ma arriverà. È a suo agio con altri cani, anche se la sua personalità è forte e sicura intorno agli altri animali. Krista cerca una persona che capisca cosa significa condividere la propria vita con un cane che ha imparato a stare in piedi da sola. Un cane come questo apprezza profondamente ogni cosa che le offri.

Some dogs never had the chance to be naive. They are the ones who grew up on the street, relying on instinct to survive. Krista is one of them. For years she was on her own, responsible for everything, her food, her water, her sleep, finding a place to cool down in the summer and stay warm in the winter. She did not really have another option. We found her sick. Her body was in very poor condition, skin issues, leishmaniasis. As a patient, she was exceptional and very cooperative, and she made a full recovery. She has been with us at the shelter ever since. Krista is a gentle dog. Quiet and very sweet, she understands a lot, knows how a walk works, is comfortable on the leash, and adapts easily to a routine. Her past has taught her to be self-sufficient, and she will not ask for more than she needs. She also has a habit we love. Once a day, she does her own little victory lap around the shelter, passing in front of the kennels with energy, as if she is saying, “I am Krista, and I am doing well.” And she has every right to. She has earned it. It may take her a little time to open up in a new home, and at first she might be a bit hesitant or find a busy neighborhood with lots of people and cars overwhelming. But she will get there. She is fine with other dogs, though her personality is strong and confident around other animals. Krista is looking for a person who understands what it means to share their life with a dog who learned to stand on her own. A dog like that deeply values whatever you offer her.
