Il y a des chiens qui n'ont jamais connu le luxe d'être naïfs. Des chiens qui ont grandi dans les rues, s'appuyant sur leur instinct pour survivre. Krista en est un exemple. Pendant des années, elle a vécu seule, responsable d'elle-même. Trouver de la nourriture, de l'eau et un endroit pour dormir. Chercher de l'ombre en été et de la chaleur en hiver. Ce n'est pas qu'elle ait choisi cette vie. C'est qu'elle n'a jamais vraiment eu le choix. Nous avons trouvé Krista malade. Son corps était épuisé, sa peau très affectée, et elle souffrait de leishmaniose. En tant que patiente, elle était exceptionnelle. Calme, coopérative et résiliente. Elle a terminé son traitement avec succès, s'est pleinement rétablie et est ensuite venue au refuge. Krista est un chien discret. Silencieux, doux et réfléchi. Elle comprend beaucoup, sait comment fonctionne une promenade, se sent à l'aise en laisse et s'adapte facilement à la routine. Son passé lui a appris l'autonomie, et elle ne demandera jamais plus qu'elle n'en a vraiment besoin. Elle a aussi une habitude que nous adorons absolument. Une fois par jour, elle fait ce que nous appelons sa victoire autour du refuge, courant devant les cages avec assurance, comme si elle criait : « Je suis Krista, et je vais bien. » Et elle a tout à fait le droit d'être fière. Elle l'a mérité. Elle aura peut-être besoin de temps pour s'ouvrir dans une nouvelle maison, et au début, elle pourrait être hésitante dans un quartier animé, avec du trafic, des gens et du bruit. Mais elle s'en sortira. Elle s'entend bien avec les autres chiens, et bien que sa personnalité soit calme, elle est confiante et stable auprès des autres animaux. Krista cherche quelqu'un qui comprend ce que signifie vivre avec un chien qui a appris à se tenir debout seul. Un chien comme ça valorise profondément tout ce que vous lui donnez.

Some dogs never had the chance to be naive. They are the ones who grew up on the street, relying on instinct to survive. Krista is one of them. For years she was on her own, responsible for everything, her food, her water, her sleep, finding a place to cool down in the summer and stay warm in the winter. She did not really have another option. We found her sick. Her body was in very poor condition, skin issues, leishmaniasis. As a patient, she was exceptional and very cooperative, and she made a full recovery. She has been with us at the shelter ever since. Krista is a gentle dog. Quiet and very sweet, she understands a lot, knows how a walk works, is comfortable on the leash, and adapts easily to a routine. Her past has taught her to be self-sufficient, and she will not ask for more than she needs. She also has a habit we love. Once a day, she does her own little victory lap around the shelter, passing in front of the kennels with energy, as if she is saying, “I am Krista, and I am doing well.” And she has every right to. She has earned it. It may take her a little time to open up in a new home, and at first she might be a bit hesitant or find a busy neighborhood with lots of people and cars overwhelming. But she will get there. She is fine with other dogs, though her personality is strong and confident around other animals. Krista is looking for a person who understands what it means to share their life with a dog who learned to stand on her own. A dog like that deeply values whatever you offer her.
